The following is a message that Ann sent out to all the grandchildren today.
As I write this, we have just spoken with the Hospice nurse at mom and dad’s this morning. She feels it is probably a matter of days to wait now.
Grandpa is very agitated and disoriented, the groaning he does when we move him is not from frustration or stiffness, but most likely pain. We are going to increase his meds today and keep him more medicated so he can rest comfortably. Grandma is very tired, Bonnie stayed overnight with her to take care of dad, but Grandma slept in the same room, so heard everything anyway and didn’t sleep. Tonight she is going to sleep at our house and either Sue or Bonnie are going to stay overnight, but we are hoping with the increased meds, he will rest better.
Grandpa is really busy right now transitioning from this world to the next. He has a lot to process and work on in his mind and heart. We have decided to stop any more outside visitors, it only causes him confusion to try to understand the person, and it draws him back into this world, where he doesn’t want to be. We would love for you guys to keep coming as you want to, especially to visit with Grandma. If you want to spend time with Grandpa, it would be great to just hold his hand and be quiet, or rub lotion on him. Physical contact is very important still. We will probably leave him in the bedroom from now on.
You have all been such an important part of this time with Grandma and Grandpa. It makes Grandma feel so special to have such a supportive and loving family. All her visitors and the nurses tell her that she is blessed.
I love you all very much. May you find God’s peace.
Ann
