Car Tales

On the way home from work last night my radio started working again.  It hasn't worked in 3 years and last night it decided to come back on.   This is the same night I'm trading it in on the new car.  SO, on the drive to the dealer the radio WORKED, but you could not turn it off, change the volume or change the station.  I finally pulled over and shut off the car.  When I started it back up the radio did not work.  Whew, that was lucky.

Here's the new ride.  Gotta love a car that has a working radio!!

My 2004 Volvo XC90 will turn over 198,000 miles today.  I'm trading it in on a 2013 Volvo XC60 with about 15,000 miles on it.  I have always taken good care of my cars (thanks Dad) and make sure the interior is always clean and tiday.   Today I got a bag of Cheeots to eat in the old car just before I trade it in.   My little joke

Trip to Iowa

We took a quick trip to Iowa to visit Zac's Family as they were visiting from Florida.   For some reason I can't label the photos so I'll try to explain who is in them.  Zac, Amber, Maddie and Lillie are visiting from Florida.  Also in the photo are Jere and Gina's kids, Luke, Owen, Jude and Finn.

At Last...

At Last...we are finally on the water.  It's been a LONG spring, but with a LOT of help and a little luck we got the boat in the water.  We actually had TWO nice days in a row.  The new boat is awesome and we are so happy with it.

The Beach is back

For the last 10 days we have been cleaing the beach AGAIN.   The before photos are from 10 days ago and the after photos are from today.    Mother Nature has been in a bad mood for months.  Let's hope she is feeling better soon!!

Playhouse Fun...

The playhouse has a new home!   We relandscaped a spot under the tree for the playhouse with a nice sidewalk.

It's April??

A bit of a log jam....  The only good thing about the cold weather is that the ice was keeping the log jam at bay.  Today the ice broke loose and all the logs are now running to my beach.   Last year on March 16 there was someone water skiing on the lake!   This year the ice is still there Apil 9.   Crazy!!

News from mom.

Shucks! I missed Grandma Mieska's Birthday Party! I'm still down in Arizona and the party was in Minneapolis - too far to commute! I'll be there for Grandpa Mieska's party though. They enjoy it so much, they've decided to celebrate Fred's birthday in August, too. That's the price I pay for being down here all winter!

At the party, Rynda commented that she misses my blog jottings!!! I think they are boring, but is she wants to read them, then I guess I can write them occasionally. The season is almost over and I will be coming home to Northfield April 8, so this will be the only one for now.

I arrived down here October 14, 2012 and the weather was pretty warm. 100 degrees every afternoon for the first couple of weeks. Air conditioning in the afternoon but as soon as the sun goes down, it cools off. Most of my friends were already here so I caught up on all the news from all of them. Opening up the place takes a little time but I got it done. Sue came down with me a couple of years ago so she did the hard things that year. That was great!

Activities for the park start the first of November so there was the "welcome back" party. Tuesday night dinner shows are popular and I am involved with that. The park also has concert series every other week and I'm also an usher for those. It keeps me out of the house and always meeting new people and I like that.

Let's not forget the cocktail parties that each of my friends have!! I enjoy being included in all the softball friends parties. Marland loved playing softball and we developed a close relationship with his teammates and their spouses. They all still claim me as their friend, and for that, I am very grateful.

I have some relatives down here again. For a few years, I had 3 brothers and their wives and Marland had 2 sisters and their husbands. They are no longer here but, Lorn & Kitty Schneeberger, Marland's cousin and wife, come see me every year, and now my cousin, Janet Stock Dewey and Alan, are here and we get together occasionally. One day, 4 of my cousins got together. Ruth Berg, Janet & Al, Arlene Dosdall, and myself had lunch. It was fun.

The park "going away" party is next week and then it's time to be thinking of packing up to go home.

The highlight of the whole season happened on my birthday! February 20th I met 7 of my family at the airport!! Heather , Sean and Mara Hebel, Bethanie, Barry, Brody, and Maverick Park flew down to spend a week with me. What a glorious time we had!
As most of you know, I get pretty lonesome for my family! Skype helps but there is nothing like the real thing. I'm hoping that Sue will include a few pictures of our week in this blog. This is an open invitation to any of my "grands" and "greats" to come visit me when I'm down here. I'd love to have you.

Enough for this time. Love, LaVerne
