News from Mom

Hi from Arizona,

Today I was looking back at the Mieska blog--it's been over a month since I wrote anything. It was time to look back and remember all the good things that have happened in recent months.

Watching three of my little great grandchildren enjoying a day out with their Mommy or Grqndma makes me so proud and happy that I have such a terrific family. Like Gina commented, "I wish I could have been there". I also enjoyed seeing the pictures of Jesse's baby shower. Again, "I wish I could have been there". I'm still waiting to hold Brody in my arms for the first time and getting re-acquainted with Claire and Everleigh. I am looking forward to being back there when Baby Swenson arrives. This is the price I pay for spending the winter months where is it warm.

I've been very fortunate to have my kids visit me this winter. It has made the time good for me. Bonnie & Sue came down in November, Steve & Peggy visited me in January, Annie was here in March and now I'm looking forward to another visit from Sue in April. Annie was here to help me when I had Vertigo and what a blessing that was cause I was dizzy much of the time. (Dizzier than usual you are thinking!) Greg surprised me with a phone call just this week. He was down in Phoenix for his job and drove over here to take me to dinner one evening. Lobster and Shrimp was the order of the day!! Wow! I hadn't had that for many, many years.

Things are winding down here in the park. Most of the activities will be over with by the first of April and then it is just cutting down on grocery buying and starting to pack up for going home. I'm excited to get back to family and friends and I also hope to get down to Iowa to see my new little Finn Mieska and his family.

I fly home to Minnesota April 17. Keep on watching the Mieska blog--you never know what or whom you might see!! Love, LaVerne I almost forgot--I'm now a SKYPE fan and have had a great time talking and seeing lots of people--even my families in Iowa and Florida. It's great.

Grandma Edna

We had our annual birthday party for Grandma Edna at Phyllis' house yesterday. It was a lot of fun. Bud made some homemade Johnnie Cake that was loaded with butter and tasted yummy. We talked about Grandma and her life and also talked about geneology. Rynda suggested we do a DNA test on the Mieska line, so Steve is going to donate some DNA and Rynda will follow up with a company that tests it. Since we don't really know who Grandpa Fred's father was, this might help us find out. Anyway, stay tuned for more...

Phyllis had some items that were Grandma's that she was parting with, so I picked up her Bible. It was a gift to her in 1962 from her children. It has her name and the year embossed on the front. I'm going to send it down to Jere and Gina for a keepsake. While I was packaging it up a card fell out that listed Grandma's Confirmation Verse. 2 Peter 1-19. Look it up if you are curious. She also marked that passage in "pen" in the bible itself. I was surprised by that. I guess she wanted someone to find it. Well, I did.
