Mom's Blog 2.3.08

Hello People,

Today is Super Bowl Sunday. I suppose most of you will be watching--I'm always for the underdog so "Go Giants"!!

Today would have been Marland's 80th birthday. He would have wanted a party--he loved parties! He was most often the first one to arrive at a party and the last one to leave!! I kid you not. Lift one for him!

This week has been a good one for me. I was invited to Ed & Norine's for dinner Sunday evening. Always good food at their house.

Tuesday I enjoyed lunch at Applebee's with Doris Gulbrandson. She and her husband used to live at Viewpoint but moved to Fountain of the Sun. Bob played on the Diablos softball team with Marland. He passed away 2 years ago.

Wednesday was a real highlight for me. I attended a stage play "Anything Goes" at The Broadway Palms Dinner Theatre. I went with the singles group from the park. I've never attended anything like this even though we lived close to Minneapolis where I would have had access to a theatre. Marland couldn't hear well so it was not something that he cared for so I never pursued it. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I am already scheduled to attend the next production on March 19. That will be "Hello Dolly".

Thursday evening our park sponsored a concert. It was "A Tribute to Liberace". It was okay but nothing to write home about. I just did--didn't I?!!!

Friday I was invited to a get acquainted party to meet the 4 or 5 new members and their wives of the Diablos softball team. They still consider me part of the group and I still attend many of their games.

Saturday I received a call from Janie Anderson( one of the gals that I have coffee with at McDonalds on Monday morning when I'm in Northfield). She is in another park down here and has a friend who is spending one month at Viewpoint. She is a widow and is down here without a vehicle. Janie asked me to contact her and maybe introduce her to some of the activities here. I went to see her and had a nice visit. She is joining me at the Monday morning coffee in the ball room tomorrow and I will show her around. I also offered to call her whenever I go for groceries or whatever to see if she wants to ride along. I had many people who did this for me last year until I bought my car so now I can reciprocate to someone else.

That's it for this week.

Love, LaVerne
