Good Morning from Arizona
Another day to look forward to. I know that the temperatures in Minnesota have been awfully cold so I hate to mention the weather down here but I'll do it anyway. The mornings are quite cool. It's 40 degrees when I go for my walk but as soon as the sun comes out, it feels good. The last few days it has reached in the high 70's and one day it made 80 degrees. This week it is going to be nice and warm.
I'm looking forward to watching the Inauguration of Barack Obama. It is a special moment in history and one that I am very proud to be a part of. I've had my TV on to CNN much of the time and all the media tell us that it is a monumental occasion.
My good friend, Barbara Everson, passed away this last Monday. I visited her 3 times while I was home and her spirit was optimistic. She said she would see me in April when I returned. That was not to be but she was a fighter. I will miss her.
Our Maricopa County sheriff, Joe Arpio, gave a speech at our park last Wednesday. He is known nation wide for his method of operating the department. He has many of the prisoners staying in Tent City without any pleasantries. They even have to pay for their own food. He was just re-elected with an 85% voter turnout. The auditorium where he spoke holds 1200 people and it was full. Good speech.
My niece, Vicki Hobbs, called me yesterday. She and Herb are visiting her father, Wally Holt, here in Mesa. She will get together with me sometime this week. I'm looking forward to that.
I'm going up to the ball park this afternoon to watch a few ball games. It's something to do.
More next week. Love, LaVerne
