Gary Bruggenthies — 103

Jeff was the top vote getter in the Primary held yesterday. The people have spoken!! Jeff will be hitting the road and talking to as many people as possible from now until the election in November.

From Faribault Daily NewsL:
FARIBAULT — Jeff Docken and Mike Piper will go head-to-head in the Nov. 4 election for the Rice County District 5 Commissioner seat.

The duo bested Jerry Anderson and Gary Bruggenthies on Tuesday.

Docken won the primary handily with 50 percent of the 1,127 votes. Piper took second with 24 percent.

Docken said he was excited to make it not only to the general election but also to carry such a large percentage of the vote. He said the results are indicative of the effort he made to make contact with the residents in his district.

“I enjoyed meeting so many new people,” said the lifelong Rice County resident. “It was great to see so many people involved.”

Piper was also happy to get through the primary.

“I feel great,” he said. “It’s overwhelming that people would think enough of me to vote for me, so I’m going to continue to try and earn their vote.”

Bruggenthies said his relative newness to the county might have affected his result. Anderson and Docken are both lifelong residents, while Piper has been in the county for 22 years. Bruggenthies has been in the county for a decade.

He said while that may have been a factor, it won’t deter him from attempting to win the District 5 seat in four years.

Anderson did not return calls seeking comment Tuesday night.

All four were looking to replace Jim Brown, who currently holds the seat and announced this spring he would not seek re-election.

District 5 covers Bridgewater Township, Forest Township, Lonsdale, part of Northfield, Webster Township and Wheatland Township.
