Happy Birthday Dad...

Here is the reading for today in my daily reading book. The morning after my dad died, I was reading the Bible and talking to the Lord about my sadness. I found John 6. When I came to verse 39, the Lord whispered comfort to my sad heart: "This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day." Dad's spirit was with the Lord already, butI knew that one day he would be raised and given a new body. As I continued reading, I noticed 3 other times in John 6 that Jesus said He will raise His people from the dead at the last day. He was repeating this truth to those who were listening long ago as well as to my heart that day. Our hope of resurrection will be realized when Jesus returns. "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall bechanged." (1 Cor. 15:52). After the resurrection, believers in Jesus will receive their new bodies and rewards for their faithful service (1 Cor.3:12-15; 2 Cor. 5:9-11).When that day comes, we can all play a game of softball with dad in ournew bodies, and we will all get a home run. AND, we'll catch everyflyball in the outfield! "Get them kind!"
Happy 79th birthday, dad!!

I was looking at the pictures from grandpa's birthday last year and was realizing what a gift that day was for all of us and him. He will be missed today (and everyday), but I look forward to celebrating his life tonight with our family at mom's house. Happy birthday, Grandpa!!
Love, Jesse

dear grandpa,
everyday i think of you, and wonder what kind of fun you are having each day. it gives me such comfort and peace to know where you are and that you are still with all of us everyday. i look at the picture of you and grandma from jesse and ben's wedding on my refrigerator daily to remind me of how much love you have for everyone (as if i needed a reminder!!) your smile in that photo reminds me to love my family daily and to enjoy everything in life. you are with gina, luke, owen and i everyday.
to grandma,
we are so proud of you!! your faith, strength, and love are an inspiration to all of us. you are so strong and brave. The Lord has given you the strength and courage to go forward with your love for grandpa. you have seen and felt the love for you, and the support you have all over this country. i pray this love and encouragement continues to strengthen you in your daily life.
to all of my family,
i think of you all daily. i hope our grief and celebration of grandpa will strengthen our relationships despite distance, ages, or careers. remembering beth's eulogy of grandpa's legacy being his family and love for family, i hope we can live in that legacy and continue to grow and spread that legacy with one another.
this comes from remembering the love our entire family has and shows, along with the strength and courage we have all given to each other.
one more thing before i go, grandpa, i know you've got a direct line to The Guy Upstairs...so i was hoping you could do me a couple of favors. First, i think amy would be on this bandwagon...how about "da bears" tomorrow??
Second, since spring training is less than 2 weeks away, i was thinking you might like the sound of a Twins-Cubs World Series this year, and since the Twins have won a couple of series in the last century, maybe this year could finally be the Cubs' year?? i know the last one is a lot to ask for, but any help us cub fans can get, we take:):)
may grandpa be with us all everyday until we meet up with him again!!!!
happy birthday grandpa,
gina, luke, owen, and i love you.
