Just wanted to send a few photos along to show everyone what the little people have been up to. They enjoyed the Ozarks and have been having a blast tubing on their grandpa's boat.

Sad news, Weiser is gone.
Weiser, the pug dog, died on Friday, June 27, 2008. We are all very sad and we miss him already. He was buried by Don, Annie and Jeff on the hill under the flagpole. We know he will love the view and the cool breezes there.
You have a special place Dear Lord that we know you'll always keep.A special place reserved for dogs when they quietly fall asleep. With maybe a little babbling creek that chatters over stones.With wide green fields and flowers for running freely under Your sky of perfect blue.Lord, we know You keep this special place And so to You we Pray,For one special Pug dog Who quietly died today.He was full of strength & love and so very, very wise.The puppy look he once had Had long since left his eyes.
He will be surely missed my Lord
by many a friend left behind. So, speak to Weiser softly please And give him a loving pat.He's a special gift to you Dear Lord From all of us who loved him so.

Farmer seeking county seat: Jeff Docken will run for Rice County board

Brown last week said he would not seek election in November. Jeff Docken, 51, said he will register to run for the seat when the two-week filing period opens July 1. District 5 covers Bridgewater Township, Forest Township, Lonsdale, part of Northfield, Webster Township and Wheatland Township.Docken said he had been encouraged to run for the position in the past by fellow Rice County residents, but he said the time wasn’t right then. While Docken alludes to an economic slowdown, there is a similar slowdown of sorts at home. His family-operated farm has more people helping. Also, his three children — Heather, Joshua and Bethanie — are all adults and out of the house, which allows him to focus his energy elsewhere, he said.With the presumptive slowdown, Docken said it’s important to help people get going in the right direction and would like to help as much as he can. Docken, who has a two-year degree in agriculture from the University of Minnesota — Waseca, is currently the citizen representative for District 5 on the Rice County planning commission and previously served on the Webster Township Board.“I’m interested in what’s going on,” the Northfield High School graduate said. “I’m interested in seeing what the direction of the county will be and will continue to be.”He said energy, transportation issues, as well as planning and zoning ordinances and economic development of the county are areas where he would like to look.“I think Rice County has a strong agricultural base and I’d like to see it continue as a strong base, but yet there has to be some kind of compromise to spread the tax load,” he said. “There’s got to be some balance there.”Brown, who said he wouldn’t endorse a candidate at this point, did say Docken could fill in just fine.“Jeff’s very conscientious, active in his community and a very commonsense-orientated person,” he said. “He’d be an excellent candidate.”Spending most of his life in Webster with a few years in Northfield, Docken said he knows Rice County. That, along with his lifelong involvement with agriculture, gives him nearly half a century worth of experience that is related to what Rice County is about. He said he never plans to leave Rice County and, if elected as commissioner, would want to serve multiple terms.
But, what could be considered more important than anything, he said, is an interest in filling the seat.“I have the desire to do it,” Docken said.

Twins and Cousins
Long live the road trip! Thanks to the 45+mpg Pri-pri (aka Prius), Bethanie, Barry, Josh and I trekked to Wisconsin this weekend. Barry wanted to fly us there (showoff) but alas, we did not listen. Even when we hit Lacrosse, Barry was still trying to convince us to turn around and return to the airport in Lakeville. Fortunately, it didn't take us too much longer than normal. Thanks Sue and our little GPS for helping us find good back roads! It felt sooo good to sleep after we arrived at Heather and Seans!Saturday morning Bethanie ditched the girls, and went with the guys to see this dude that custom paints motorcycles (I threatened Josh with what I would do to him if he got ANY ideas at this place). Heather and I had fun visiting some cute shops in downtown Fort Atkinson. One super cute shop had a totally flooded basement :-(. After that, it was time to head to Milwaukee!Tailgaiting at Miller Park in Milwaukee is SOO fun. DARN THOSE MINNESOTA DECISION MAKERS for not creating the same tailgating opportunity at the new Twins stadium!!! We had tons of yummy, unhealthy food, enjoyed several adult beverages, played washers and the bean bag game, and all around had a great time. It was fun to catch up with Ami and Scott too!!For the actual game... it was one of the best I've seen! (Except for that game 6 of the 1991 world series that my dad and I went to... still haven't forgotten that we LEFT the game before Kirby's infamous home run). Sean and his friends are Brewers fans so Josh and I enjoyed talking SMACK with them all game. It went into extra innings and the Twins finally pulled it on in the 12th.All in all, a very fun weekend! We hope to make it an annual tradition. Hopefully next time Wisconsin isn't totally flooded. On the way home it was incredible to see lakes where fields used to be just days ago! Keep everyone in Iowa and Wisconsin in your prayers! Whitney
